Dumbfounded at the fact that I have not yet discovered the middle-ground between leaving the pediatrician feeling like an overly protective hypo-whatever searching for a quick-fix to the common sniffles and that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when the doctor’s face clearly reveals we should have come in sooner, I bite my lower lip apologetically and attempt to comfort my whimpering toddler.
To further discern Jeremy’s well-being, the doctor attempts a simple conversation:
Would you like some medicine to make you feel better?
Jeremy nods his head and musters: Uh-hu
It’s pink medicine; is that OK?
Without a pause he shakes his head: Nu-uh
Pleased and amused the doctor asks Why don’t you want pink medicine?
Gurlz like it.
Completely satisfied he finishes up with Which color would you like?
With firm resolution: BLUE
